Academic Appointments
Dr Ip is a Consultant Physician who is dually trained and fully qualified in the specialty field of geriatric medicine and neurology.
He graduated in medicine from the University of Sydney in 1997 and undertook advanced physician training in geriatric medicine at Westmead / Blacktown Hospitals, Sydney. He obtained the Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in geriatric medicine in 2004.
Dr Ip continued his post-Fellowship specialist training in neurology, during which he worked in major neurology units in Sydney including St George, Concord and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals. He was the inaugural Stroke Fellow at Westmead Hospital in 2006 and was awarded the Fellowship in neurology in the same year.
Dr Ip’s current hospital appointments include Visiting Medical Officer (neurology) at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai and Ryde Hospitals NSLHD, Sydney Adventist Hospital (The San), Norwest and the Hills Private Hospitals. He joined Nepean Hospital NBMLHD in 2014 as a Staff Specialist in neurology.
He was appointed the Honorary Associate of the Sydney Medical School (2013-21) to take part in clinical and academic work at the Healthy Brain Ageing Clinic, the Brain and Mind Centre of the University of Sydney. In 2022, he was offered the title of Clinical Senior Lecturer of the Australian National University (ANU) School of Medicine and Psychology for his teaching and academic role at the ANU Clinical School at the San.
In addition to general neurology and geriatric medicine, Dr Ip has an interest in dementia, neurocognitive and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as common neurological illnesses in the older people such as stroke and Parkinson’s disease.
