Dr Peter Fahmy

My medical career started when I enrolled at Otago University, New Zealand (established in 1869) and entered the medical school of Otago graduating in 2004. I then moved to Australia in 2007 to start my career in cardiology where I completed my internal medicine training at Westmead Public Hospital then speciality training in Cardiology at Monash Heart, VIC.

Following I undertook a PhD in gene therapy at the University of Sydney. I was always drawn to interventional cardiology and travelled to Vancouver Canada to undertake a Fellowship in Interventional and Structural Cardiology at Vancouver General and St Paul’s Hospitals, one of the most innovative and prestigious academic institutions. I trained under the auspicious direction of Professor John Webb, the Pioneer for percutaneous transcatheter aortic valve implantation and Professor Jacqueline Saw, world leader in spontaneous coronary dissection and left atrial appendage closures. In addition to the above and general cardiology, I am clinically experienced in percutanoues coronary intervention, rotablation, intravascular ultrasound, optical coherence tomography, ASD and PFO closures.

I have published and co-authored more than a dozen manuscripts and presented at multiple international and national conferences.

My aim in returning to Sydney is to capitalize on those skills and help establish this revolutionary life saving, surgery sparing technology in the Western Suburbs.

On a personal note, I spend most of my spare time training in soccer and cycling around the beautiful pathways of Sydney.
